
Former Buck Jones Named Top 100 Prospect by ESPN.com

Waterloo, IA - Former Waterloo Buck James Jones has been named as one of the top 100 prospects in baseball for the 2011 season by ESPN.com. Jones,who played for Waterloo in 2008, was ranked number 100 by the senior baseball analyst for ESPN Insider, Keith Law. eLawTop100Prospects76-100 8]
After playing for the Bucks in '08, Jones was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Last season, the Long Island University product played for Seattle's Single A affiliate, the Clinton LumberKings. Jones hit .269 with 12 home runs, 65 RBI, and 24 bases for Clinton. In October, Jones was named the Midwest League's Offensive Player of the Postseason by MiLB.com after hitting .356 for the LumberKings as they advanced to the MWL Championship Series.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Jones was named the Waterloo Bucks Roth Jewelers Player of the Year in 2008. A two-way threat, Jones finished the '08 Northwoods League season with a 5-2 record, a 2.45 ERA, and 58 strikeouts. At the plate, Jones hit .296 with eight doubles and 15 RBI. For his efforts, Jones was honored as one of Baseball America's Top 10 MLB prospects of the NWL.
The Bucks will open the 2011 season on the road at the Battle Creek Bombers on June 1. Waterloo's home opener is scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at 6:35 pm versus the Eau Claire Express.
