Lakeland Raiders News Release

The Lakeland Raiders are proud to welcome home Lakeland High School grad and former Dreadnaught Josh Smith, adding both experience and speed to the growing team lineup. After high school, Smith began his collegiate career with Compton Community College where he had several stellar seasons with 17 touchdowns and received the honor of being designated "Player of the Week" an unprecedented five times. His drive then took him to Boise State where he started seven games and was a factor in the Broncos first undefeated regular season. The following year he transferred back home to Webber International where he averaged 25 yards per catch and 9 touchdowns. His professional career began strong with the Mississippi Mudcats (AIFA) where he had 63 touchdowns and racked up over 2500 yards receiving in just 2 years. He also later joined the Carolina Speed (AIFA), El Paso Generals (IFL), and the Columbus Lions (SIFL). Josh has also been awarded on two occasions as a league All-star. Now the former Dreadnaught comes back home to excite the crowd and hopefully bring home a championship. We had the opportunity to sit down with Josh and asked him a few questions:

Josh, what do you bring to the team to make it a championship caliber team' "I bring experience, hard working mentality and the big play ability."

What do you miss most about football season' "I miss the game itself more than anything. Being able to run by a helpless defender and score a touchdown or crack blocking a linebacker on a long run."

How does it feel to play for you home town team' "It's going be a blast to play in front of friends and family again. It's like being a Dreadnaught again!"

Anything you want to say to Lakeland Raider Battalion' "Get ready for some football ‚¬Â¦ lots of scoring, hard hits and some amazing catches!"

Lakeland Raiders owner Mike Mink said "I'm very excited to add Josh to the team and the Raider Battalion is getting stronger by the minute. Josh adds two very important elements to our winning team - speed and experience. We can't wait to take the field and show our fans how exciting Ultimate Indoor Football can be for Lakeland!"
