London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, ON) - The London Lightning are excited to announce that we have signed American big, Amir Williams, for the 2022 season.
Standing at 6'11, the former Ohio State Buckeye and McDonalds All-American adds much needed height and low post presence for the Bolts. Before his time with the Buckeyes, Amir was the number one ranked high school athlete in the State of Michigan and ranked 53rd in the nation. Williams finished his four-year career with the Buckeyes ranked 5th all-time in school history for shots blocked.
Prior to signing with London, the Detroit, Michigan native has spent time in the NBA G-League with both the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets affiliate) and the Iowa Wolves (Minnesota Timberwolves affiliate). Williams has also made professional stops in New Zealand, Switzerland, Hungary and the UK, playing in each country's top league respectively.
"Amir brings a pedigree to our team that few players have. He was an All-American, ranked in the top 100 players of his class and played for one of the top colleges in the NCAA. He has all the tools to become one of the most dominant bigs this league has seen and will anchor our defense this season." - Head Coach Doug Plumb
"I'm looking forward to joining a new team. I've heard great things about the Lightning in the past, and coach has a great looking roster so far and can't wait to see what we can do this season". - Amir Williams
Catch Amir and the rest of the Lightning this season when they take the court at the Budweiser Gardens for their home-opener March 5th, 2022.
