Former af2 head coach Rick Frazier passes away
November 19, 2007 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - The arenafootball2 league (af2) is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of former head coach Rick Frazier. The 53-year-old Frazier died late last week in Wisconsin from a severe case of pneumonia resulting from complications related to a fungal virus.
Frazier is survived by three grown children -- a son and twin daughters -- as well as a 2-month-old grand daughter.
Frazier's coaching career, which spanned 30 years at the pro, college and high school levels, included four and half seasons as a head coach at the Arena Football League level (Milwaukee 1998-2001, Grand Rapids 2004) and three years at the af2 level (Norfolk 2003, Quad City 2005-06).
His combined record as an af2 head coach was 24-25 overall (0-1 playoffs). He finished 16-17 overall with the Quad City Steamwheelers during his most recent head coaching opportunity, guiding the squad to one playoff appearance in 2005.
The Steamwheelers Fan Club has established a memorial fund to help Frazier's family defray any medical and burial costs.
To contribute, checks must be made out to the Steamwheelers Fan Club and sent to:
Gary Stibolt
2827 Greenway Drive
Bettendorf, IA 52722
Donations can also be made via credit card on-line at www.steamwheelerfans.com. Any funds collected will be forwarded along with a card to the family.
Services will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday at Luko-Evert Funeral Home in Frazier's adopted home of Harland, Wisc. Frazier's funeral and burial is Wednesday in his hometown of Tyler, Texas.
Frazier will be remembered as a player's coach, a fan-friendly and easy-going guy who was as a loyal friend and a class act through and through.
"Rick was a well-respected coach who gave a great deal to the game of Arena Football. His passion for the game and his presence on the sidelines will be sorely missed," said af2 League President Jerry Kurz. "Everyone in the AFL and af2 family extends their most sincere condolences to Rick's family and friends."
