Ford Named 2007 Warrior Most Improved Player of the Year

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Thursday, August 16, 2007 - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional lacrosse league, announced today that Los Angeles Riptide attackman Spencer Ford has been honored as the 2007 Warrior Most Improved Player of the Year, according to Commissioner David Gross. The award was based on votes submitted by the general managers and head coaches of the ten MLL teams.
A 1999 graduate of Towson University, Ford set an MLL single-season record with 47 assists, shattering the previous record of 40, which was set by attackman Conor Gill during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. He recorded at least three assists in nine of the Riptide's 12 games this season, including a league-high seven assists in a 17-5 victory over the Denver Outlaws on July 14.
Ford was honored as the league's Offensive Player of the Week after the Riptide's victory against San Francisco on July 28 when he scored one goal with five assists in a 20-11 victory.
Prior to this season, Ford had played in just eight career games, scoring six goals with 14 assists. He played with the Baltimore Bayhawks during the 2001 season and appeared in games for Los Angeles and the Rochester Rattlers last year.
The 2007 NB ZIP MLL Championship Weekend will begin on Saturday, August 25 with a pair of semi-final games. The defending MLL champion Philadelphia Barrage will play against the Denver Outlaws at 2 p.m. (ET) while Rochester plays Los Angeles at 5 p.m. (ET). The two semi-final winners will meet on Sunday, August 26 in the NB ZIP MLL Championship Game at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN2 HD.
