Philadelphia Force News Release
Allentown, PA- After waiting out two days of rain in Allentown, the New England Riptide showed the rust in the first game of a doubleheader tonight, losing to the Philadelphia Force by the score of 7-1 in ugly fashion. Kristina Thorson limited the Riptide to only one hit, that a one out single by Lyndsey Angus with one out in the seventh. She struck out six and walked only two. The Riptide actually led at one point scoring a run in the top of the second on a walk to Garland Cooper, a sacrifice bunt, sac fly and a wild pitch.
The Force took the lead for good with two runs in the third when Riptide starter Danielle Henderson was unable to get any of the first four batters. Singles by Emily Friedman, Chelsea Spenser and Jenna Hall along with a hit batter caused Henderson to be replaced with Jocelyn Forest. Forest pitched well and got the next three outs. The only earned run she gave up was a solo homerun by Trena Peel in the fourth. Things unraveled in the sixth when the Riptide committed two errors and the Force got two infield hits that were hits through the good graces of the scorekeeper. Forest walked two, the only two walks she allowed that night and when it was over the score was 7-1 and the game effectively over. Henderson falls to 3-2 while Thorson is now 4-2 for the Force. The two teams resumed their second game of the twin bill at 7:45 tonight.
