Philadelphia Force News Release

Allentown, Pa. - The Philadelphia Force, along with rest of the National Pro Fastpitch league, have announced their 2009 schedule. The Force, who will call ECTB Stadium at BicentennialPark home for their fourth year, will begin the 50-game campaign on Wednesday, June 3 when they visit the 2008 NPF Cowles Cup Champions, the Chicago Bandits. The Bandits series will conclude on Sunday, June 7. The Force will open up at home on June 10th against the New England Riptide.

Each team in the league will play a 50-game regular season schedule with all teams playing each other a minimum of 10 games (5 home and 5 away). Unlike the 2008 season, Olympic teams and foreign national teams will not be a part of the competitive schedule.

"I believe that this schedule format is better for the future of the League and we certainly look forward to hosting those NPF players that were members of Team USA again. The match ups of Finch vs. Burkhart or Gibson vs. Osterman will truly be memorable games ", said Tom Kleinman, Owner/GM of the Force.

After opening with the Bandit, the Force will host the New England Riptide Wednesday, June 10 through Sunday, June 14 and then Jennie Finch and the Chicago Bandits from Jun 16 through 20.

The Force will then travel to Akron, Ohio to face the Racers from June 24 through 28.

After spending the Independence Day weekend off, the Force will host Angela Tincher and the Akron Racers July 8 through July 12 at ECTB Stadium.

The Force will then go on the road to play Cat Osterman's Rockford Thunder from July 15 through July 19th and then Monica Abbott's Washington Glory from July 22 through July 26.

The Force then closes out July and start August with a home series against the Rockford Thunder from July 28 through August 1.

The final road trip of the season sends the Force to New England before returning home for the regular season's final five-game series on Wednesday, August 12 through Saturday, August 16. Monica Abbott and the Glory will be the opponent for that series.

The regular season standings will crown a regular-season champion. The top four teams will earn the right to play in the NPF Championship Series. The Championship Series has been hosted by the Cardinal Youth Softball League in Kimberly, Wisconsin for the past two seasons, but league officials are expected to announce within the next few days the new location of this prestigious event for the 2009 season.
