Philadelphia Force News Release
Allentown, PA- The Force's offense did not come alive in either game of a doubleheader that concluded the Force's exhibition series with Team China. The first game ended in a tie after the teams played a scoreless eight innings. The Force dropped the second game to China, 8-2. Neither game counts in the NPF standings.
In the first game of the day, Stacy Birk pitched all eight innings for the Force. She gave up no runs as she struck out two and only gave up five hits.
For China, Lu Wei and Li Qi split the pitching effort. The two hurlers tamed the Force as they only gave up two hits to Rocky Spencer and Amy Hudson.
The game was called a tie after the eighth inning as neither team scored after playing one inning using the international tie breaker.
In the second game of the day, China's offense broke open in the top of the third as they scored five quick runs. China added one more run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to comfortably secure an 8-2 win.
The Force's only offensive threat came in the fourth inning. Rocky Spencer led off the inning with a walk. Birk followed Spencer with a ground out to second base. Spencer advanced to second base to set the stage for Amy Hudson. Hudson crushed a triple to right-center field, scoring Spencer. Two batters later, Michelle Tatlock ran out a hard ground ball to the shortstop. Hudson hustled home on the play. Clare Burnum, who had three hits in the game, grounded out to end the inning.
Relief pitcher, Wang Lang, held the Force scoreless for the final three innings. For the Force, Margo Pruis took the loss.
The Force will be back in action next week when they travel to New England to take on the Riptide for a four game series.
