Rockford Thunder News Release

LEAGUE CITY, Texas - The expansion Force continued their dominance of the Thunder on Friday night as they beat Texas 2-0 at Big League Dreams Sports Park in League City, Texas.

The win pushed the Force's record to 5-8 on the season, with all five wins coming at the expense of the hometown Thunder. With the loss, Texas fell to 11-8 on the season.

Jennifer Stewart (2-4) was in the circle for the Force on Friday night and she went the distance to record the win. She allowed just six hits in the game, while striking out three. Karrie Rider came close to scoring in the fifth inning, but she was thrown out on a bang-bang play at the plate. That was the closest the Thunder would come to scoring in the game.

The game was tied 0-0 until the top of the seventh inning, when a leadoff walk helped generate the only offense Philadelphia would need to win the game. Starting pitcher Serena Settlemier, who fell to 1-3 on the season, walked Stephanie Van Brakle to leadoff the inning. Lynsey Grace, who came in to run for Van Brakle, came around to score on a single to centerfield by Chelsea Spencer. The Force would add an insurance run in the inning on a two-out double from Carri Leto.

Settlemier went all seven innings for Texas allowing seven hits, two runs and three walks. She did strike out seven batters in the game.

Five players recorded at least one hit each in the Thunder loss.

The final game of the series with the Force is scheduled for Saturday night, July 1 at 7:05 p.m. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and all service members (police, fire, EMT) will receive a $2 discount per ticket. Christa Williams is scheduled to start tomorrow night in the circle for the Thunder.
