Harrisburg Stampede News Release
HARRISBURG, PA (May 11, 2014) - The Harrisburg Stampede (2-3) traveled to New Jersey this afternoon to take on the Trenton Freedom (3-2) in their fourth consecutive road game. It was set to be a battle for second place in the division, which Trenton held.
The opening quarter of the game started with a bang when the Freedom scored on the opening drive. The Stampede answered when Ej Nemeth found Collis Martin in the end zone, but a failed PAT attempt kept the score at 7-6. The Freedom responded with a QB keeper for a touchdown to end the quarter at 14-6.
The 2nd quarter showed promise for the Herd as the team scored an immediate touchdown, which was followed by a blocked field goal and an uno. The Freedom immediately answered the Stampede touchdown on the next possession. The Herd quickly recaptured the lead when Ej Nemeth punched in a QB keeper followed by another uno. Soon after, The Freedom was able to score a field goal and the Stampede entered halftime with the lead: 29-24.
The 3rd quarter was all defense. The Stampede held the Freedom scoreless during the quarter and was able put 3 points on the board with a field goal by Cap Poklemba. The Herd managed to hold onto their lead heading into the 4th quarter with a score of 32-24.
While the 3rd quarter was a tale of defensive might, the 4th quarter was the complete opposite. The Herd's defense gave way to the Freedom offense, as theyscored 3 unanswered touchdowns resulting in a lead of 46-39.
The Stampede offense could not keep pace, only scoring 10 2nd half points, including a late 4th quarter TD thatwas too little too late.
