Rapid City Flying Aces News Release
Rapid City, SD - The Rapid City Flying Aces are thrilled to welcome Receiver Jason Mitchell, Offensive Tackle Brett Wetton, and Center Cody Beguin to the 2006 team. The training camp excitement should be intense as the team is almost complete.
Jason Mitchell (6'1, 190), regarded as one of the best wide receivers in indoor football, joins Rapid City after spending last season with the Omaha Beef mid-season, and was the team's leading receiver. He was a two-time All-American selection as a receiver and kick returner for Dana College, where he was also a track standout. Since graduation, he has played football for the Fargo Freeze; the Lincoln Capitols, where he still holds the record for reception yards; and the Tri-City Diesel in Kearney, NE, where he holds the single game receiving record with 141 yards receiving in a single game. Mitchell also tied the team record for most TD receptions in a game with three.
Brett Wetton, the former Nebraska-Kearney football and track standout, will be heading west this season leaving the Omaha Beef for greener pastures to start at offensive tackle for the Flying Aces. And what a monster he is! The 6-8, 335 pound native of Geneva, NE, will be a part of the dominating force up front. Prior to playing with Omaha last year, Wetton had a successful season in 2004 with the Green Bay Blizzard of the af2, earning him tryouts with Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams of the NFL. He was named to the NIFL All-Star list with the Tri-City Diesel in 2002 and as an All-Star list twice with Omaha, once in 2003 and again last season.
A four year letter winner at UNK from 1996-2000, Wetton played right tackle for the Lopers. Wetton earned second team All Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) honors as a senior, a year in which he did not allow a single sack. On the track, Wetton was a two-time All American in the 35 lbs. weight throw, (66-1) and hammer (183-10).
Also signed is Cody Beguin, a 6-3, 305lbs. offensive lineman. He returns to Rapid City after spending the last two seasons with the Omaha Beef. Beguin is originally from Rushville, NE and attended Chadron State College where he was a 2nd Team All-American. In 2003, Cody played for the Rapid City Red Dogs of the NIFL.
