Flyers Start The 2010 Campaign The Right Way
May 21, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release
The Flyers took to the field in 2010 with a vengeance. A disappointing end to last year's season didn't faze the team for the start of this year.
The Flyers had a quick start with a score in the top of the first inning off a double from Joe Nowicki, which scored Travis Brown. A homerun by Rockford's Johno Brooks tied the game at one in the bottom of the second. In the fourth inning Brandon Newton reached base on an error and was brought in on a double hit by Kelly Hunt. Hunt then scored on a single by Antoan Richardson. More Riverhawks errors in the fifth inning and a homerun by Richard Mercado made the score eight to one. In the sixth inning the Flyers capped off their scoring with a homerun from Mike Mooney and a single by Kelly Hunt to score Chris Shultz.
Dustin Glant was handed the job as opening day starter for the Flyers and performed exceptionally. The righty gave up only one earned run on 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings of work to earn the win. Alain Quijano came in to finish where Glant left off and gave up 1 in 2 innings of work.
Tomorrow night at 7:05pm the Flyers try to take game 2 from Rockford in this four game series with the Riverhawks.
