Schaumburg Flyers News Release

GARY, IN - The RailCats swatted three home runs off Flyers starter Carmen Pignatiello, and Gary starter Tony Cogan extended his scoreless-inning streak to 21 as the Flyers fell 9-0 Saturday at the U.S. Steel Yard.

Gary got things going in a hurry off of Pignatiello. Mike Massaro led off the game with a double and promptly scored when Eric McNamee followed with a single. McNamee would score on a wild pitch after advancing to second when Pignatiello hit Jay Pecci and to third when Steve Haake grounded into a force out. Cristian Guerrero then launched his third homer of the season with two outs to make it 4-0 after one.

McNamee got to second on an error to lead off the third and scored on a Haake RBI-single to make it 5-0. Two more homers off Pignatiello - a Pecci solo shot and a Jeff Beachum two-run blast - brought the score to 8-0 in the sixth.

Pignatiello exited the game after six, allowing eight runs on ten hits and taking the loss to fall to 4-6. Kris Jiggits pitched the final two innings in relief, allowing a run on a McNamee single in the seventh.

Cogan was spectacular, allowing only five hits - all singles - through eight innings of work, and tossing his second consecutive shutout while improving to 5-5 on the season.

Flyers ace RHP Dustin Glant (5-2, 4.04) takes the ball to oppose RHP Chris Jones (3-1, 3.35) in the final game of the series, beginning at 2:00 on Sunday.
