Flyers drop series opener in Kansas City

June 18, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Kansas City, KS - The Flyers (7-20) were outmatched at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Friday night, dropping the series opener, 8-1, to the T-Bones (17-11).

Starter Cody Evans (0-3) had his worst outing of the year, surrendering eight runs without making it out of the fourth inning. The righty gave up ten hits and walked two in the loss.

The bullpen fared much better, as Tom Lyons and Brian McCullough combined to throw five scoreless frames. Lyons came in immediately after Evans left and forced Brian Joynt to bounce out to first. The righty went on to throw three more innings with four strikeouts. McCullough pitched a clean eighth, surrendering a leadoff single to Jimmy Mojica, but erased the KC shortstop on a 3-6-1 double play and then got Jacob Blackwood to fly out to center.

Schaumburg's offense also struggled against Northern League ERA leader Andrew Cruse (0-3). The Flyers managed their lone run on an Andre Marshall triple in the third that scored Richard Mercado.

The Flyers and T-Bones continue their series at CommunityAmerica Ballpark tomorrow night, with Schaumburg looking to get back on the winning track.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Goldeyes. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:50 PM with the game to follow.
