
Flyers Break Out the Bats in Close Win Against Fargo

Schaumburg, IL - The Flyers earned its first win of the 2008 campaign Friday, beating the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-3.
Flyers pitcher Brad Mumma pitched six innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out seven. His counterpart, RedHawks pitcher Broc Coffman, pitched 6.2 solid innings, allowing four hits and striking out three.
The Flyers bats also came alive Friday, as Vince Harrison, Peanut Williams and Chris Gaskin each hit solo home runs. A two-out double by shortstop Mark Haske scored right fielder Lance Koenig from third base in the seventh inning.
In the top of the ninth, a solo home run by pinch-hitter Dan Maycock, his second in as many nights, cut the Flyers lead to one. But Jim Popp, the lone returning Flyer from 2007, had the final say and closed out the game.
Popp earned the save, Mumma the win and Coffman suffered the loss. The Schaumburg Flyers look to win two in a row tomorrow night in game three of the four game opening series. RedHawks RHP Brett Lawson will take on Flyers RHP Dan Frega tomorrow night at 6:05 at Alexian Field. Both pitchers will be making their first starts of the season.
