Schaumburg Flyers News Release
The Flyers broke out the bats to beat the Joliet Jackhammers on Monday night with a score of 8-4. Pitcher Doug Brooks started in place of Matt Varner, and in five innings, allowed three runs, two earned, seven hits and struck out three.
His pitching counterpart Mike Schellinger appeared to have the best of the Flyers through three innings, but in the fourth, the Flyers came storming back. A seven run, six-hit fourth inning gave the Flyers a 7-3 lead, and Schaumburg never looked back. All seven runs were against Schellinger, who also allowed seven hits and two walks. Each team went on to allow one more run, and the Flyers went on to win 8-4.
Catcher Ryan Luther hit in the two-spot for the first time this season and generated three hits. Peanut Williams, in a two-hit performance, extended his hitting streak to five games.
The Flyers turned four double plays and forced nine stranded Jackhammers. Brooks got the win and Schellinger the loss. Tomorrow the Flyers will try to win two in a row against the Jackhammers, as Brian Finch (0-0) takes on Nate Sevier (1-0) at 6:20 at Alexian Field. Tuesday night is Sports Collectible Night sponsored by Chicago Sportsfest.
The Schaumburg Flyers are a member of the Northern League, a 6-team Independent Professional Baseball League established in 1993. Opening Day is May 15th, 2008. For ticket information call (847) 891-BALL (2255) or visit www.flyersbaseball.com
