Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL-Despite efforts from the Flyers grounds crew, two rain delays, and a few thousand fans who braved it all, tonight's game against the Winnipeg Goldeyes was suspended in the top of the second inning. It will pick up tomorrow at 4:45pm with no outs in the top of the second. Winnipeg will have a 1-0 lead and tonight's game will be continued and become game one of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Game two will begin a half hour after they complete tonight's game. The suspended game will be completed in nine innings, and game two will be seven innings.
First pitch was scheduled for 6:45pm but did not take place until 9:00pm because of rain. The rain came down as the game got underway and in the top of the second the game was suspended.
Carmen Pignatiello started for the Flyers. He got out of a jam in the first after letting the first two Goldeyes on base. He then retired the 3-4-5 hitters for Winnipeg-Juan Diaz, Kevin West, and Vince Harrison. The Flyers were retired in order in their half of the first. In the top of the second, Dee Brown led off with a single and Brett Metheny walked. Mark Minicozzi put down a bunt that Pignatiello threw into left field in his attempt to force Brown out at third, allowing Brown to score.
Tickets for tonight's game can be redeemed for either game Saturday or Sunday afternoon at the Alexian Field box office. Fireworks and a post-game band will follow Saturday's second game. And the final jersey auction of the season will take place Saturday in which fans can bid on jerseys worn by their favorite Flyers players.
Sunday is the last regular season home game of the season at Alexian Field. It will be Family Day as kids can run the bases and get autographs after the game.
