TODAY'S GAME: Game two of a four-game series against the Tampa Tarpons at Osceola County Stadium (1-0)...Third of four series between the two clubs in 2018, including two, and final set in Kissimmee...The Fire Frogs are 3-3 against the Tarpons this season after finishing 0-12 against the New York Yankees' affiliate in 2017.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER: 20-year-old Ian Anderson makes his ninth start of 2018 in game two of the four-game series against the Tampa Tarpons on Friday night...The 6'3" hurler came into the campaign as the Atlanta Braves fifth-ranked prospect in both Baseball America and MLB.com, and is the 42nd- (Baseball America) and 51st- (MLB.com) overall rated prospect in baseball...The native of Rexford, N.Y. held the Clearwater Threshers off the board through 5.2 frames on May 19 in a suspended game...The right-hander tied a season-high with seven strikeouts, and gave up just two hits while handing out three walks...Friday will be Anderson's third career start against the Tarpons...The third overall pick in the 2016 draft blanked Tampa over seven frames on two hits, a walk and seven punchouts at Osceola County Stadium on May 6...His next start on May 12, Anderson allowed two runs on four hits, four free passes and seven strikeouts across five innings of work at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
FLORIDA OPENS HOMESTAND WITH WIN OVER TAMPA: The Florida Fire Frogs hot stretch continued into Osceola County Stadium, as the home team took out the Tampa Tarpons, 9-1, to open up a four-game series.
Florida jumped all over Nick Nelson in the first inning, striking for two runs before recording an out. Cristian Pache singled on the first pitch from the right-hander, and moved up to third after back-to-back walks to Alejandro Salazar and Brett Cumberland. Kurt Hoekstra drilled a double over the head of Isiah Gilliam in left field, plating Pache and Salazar for the 2-0 advantage. The Fire Frogs tacked on anther run in the opening frame on a wild pitch to Braxton Davidson.
Tucker Davidson took a seven-run advantage into the fifth, but surrendered a lead-off home run on the first pitch of the inning to Angel Aguilar. The southpaw did not allow another tally through his remaining two innings, as the 22-year-old worked his second consecutive quality start with the one run allowed on five hits, a walk and four strikeouts for his third win in the month of May.
WALK THIS WAY: The Fire Frogs set a team record with nine walks drawn at the plate, surpassing the previous high of eight set on May 8 of this season against the St. Lucie Mets.
TUCKED AWAY: Tucker Davidson limited the Tarpons to just one run on five hits, a walk and four strikeouts on Thursday night...The southpaw improved to 3-0 in the month of May, with an ERA of 3.22 (8er/22.1ip) after going 0-4 with a 9.17 ERA (18er/17.2ip) during April...The 22-year-old is now 2-0 at home this season, and has allowed just four runs over 21.1 frames at Osceola County Stadium in 2018.
SLEEPING GIANTS: After being shut out and no-hit through the first six innings of a doubleheader against the Dunedin Blue Jays on May 22, Florida's offense has tallied 27 runs on 36 hits over its last 27 innings...The Fire Frogs had scored just 23 runs over their previous seven games.
