TODAY'S GAME: Finale of a three-game weekend set against the Clearwater Threshers (PHI) at Osceola County Stadium (2-0)...Florida is coming off a five-game series victory over the Daytona Tortugas at Jackie Robinson Ballpark (3-2), and a 6-2 road trip against Daytona and the Palm Beach Cardinals (3-0)...Third of four series (12 games) against the Philadelphia Phillies' affiliate, with five coming at Osceola County Stadium (3-1)...The Atlanta Braves' split a rain-shortened, two-game series at home against Clearwater from May 18-19.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER: 20-year-old Kyle Muller makes his 12th start at the High-A level (18th in 2018) in the finale of the three-game series against the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday morning...The southpaw made six starts with the Rome Braves, going 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA across 30 innings of work (8er)...The Dallas native earned his fourth consecutive win in a 2-1, eight-inning contest against the Daytona Tortugas on July 9 to complete the doubleheader sweep...The 6-foot-7 hurler allowed an unearned run on five hits and a career-high, 12 strikeouts in seven frames on 97 pitches (74 strikes)...Sunday will be Muller's second career start against the Threshers...The southpaw allowed two runs on five hits, two walks and six punchouts in 5.2 innings at Spectrum field on May 22.
FLORIDA RALLIES LATE TO COMPLETE COMEBACK OVER CLEARWATER: The Florida Fire Frogs' offense and pitching worked in perfect harmony on Saturday night, as Joey Wentz fired in another 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball in an 11-3 victory against the Clearwater Threshers to clinch the three-game series.
Wentz scattered five hits while walking a man, but also picked up five strikeouts on his way to his third victory of 2018. The Atlanta Braves' ninth-ranked prospect (MLB.com) had just one inning in which he had more than one base runner on at the same time, and worked out of the fifth inning with a fielder's choice, a fly out and a punchout.
WONDERFUL WORLD OF WENTZ: Joey Wentz continued his domination of Florida State League offenses, as the southpaw tossed 6.2 scoreless frames on Saturday night...The Leawood, Kan. native not allowed a run since surrendering a home run on the fourth pitch of the game to the Bradenton Marauders on June 13, covering 31.1 innings...Since that long ball, the Leawood, Kan. Native has walked only four while picking up 23 strikeouts.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: For the third consecutive contest, the Fire Frogs' offense erupted in the latter portion of game by plating seven runs in the seventh inning to break the game wide open...Florida scored all five runs in the series opener in the seventh and eighth innings on Friday night...Nine of the club's 11 runs in the series finale against the Daytona Tortugas were scored in the final three innings, and Florida also needed late rallies to take the doubleheader sweep away from Daytona on Monday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark...The clutch hits extend even further, as the Atlanta Braves' affiliate scored four runs in the three ninth innings against the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium at the start of their previous road trip.
BAKER'S DOZEN: Brett Cumberland picked up an RBI single in the fifth inning of Friday night's contest to extend his on-base streak to 13 games...During the stretch, the switch hitter is batting .279 (12-for-43), and has drawn 11 free passes...The product of Cal leads the Florida State League with 49 walks this season, seven more than Taylor Trammell of the Daytona Tortugas, and tying a career-high set in 2017 in 111 games.
ANDERSON NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK: 20-year-old Ian Anderson was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 2-8...Atlanta's fourth-ranked propect went 2-0 in his two starts, and did not yield a run to the Jupiter Hammerheads or Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium...Rexford, N.Y. native struck out 18 batters across 11 innings of work, while limiting the opposition to five hits, and issued just one free pass...The right-hander has not allowed a run since the sixth inning of a June 26 contest against the Dunedin Blue Jays at Osceola County Stadium, spanning 13 frames...Over three starts since the second half, Anderson has allowed two runs on 11 hits, four walks and 24 strikeouts across 17 innings, posting an ERA of 2.12 in the process.
