Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - With their backs against the wall, Florence Y'alls (44-30) reliever Will Carsten loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth of a tie game. He escaped it with a fielder's choice play at the plate, strikeout, and lineout to take a 5-3 extra-innings win and extend their win-streak to 10.
Florence didn't waste much time getting runners on base in the first two innings. They left two on in the first before a Kyle Harbison single scored Garrett Broussard to give Florence a 1-0 lead in the second. Their bats would go quiet the following three frames.
Evan Webster got the ball for Florence and immediately retired the first eight Sussex County batters with four strikeouts. That stretch was broken up by a two-out double from the Miners' nine-hitter. That first hit was the first of five consecutive Miners batters to reach with two outs, two of them coming around to score. They took a two-run lead in the third.
A controversial play at the plate tied the game when Kyle Harbison scored on a wild pitch with two outs. Zade Richardson came up clutch again and lined his second RBI-single in as many games to give Florence a 3-2 lead. Webster gave Florence another 2.1 innings before getting pulled after surrendering a single in the sixth. Jett Lodes was the first out of the pen and allowed Webster's run to score on an RBI double, tying the game at three and completing Webster's line at three earned runs on six hits and six strikeouts. Lodes and Carsten combined to keep the Miners off the board the next two innings, but Florence's offense went dormant against a couple of side-armed Sussex County relievers.
With the game tied heading into the bottom of the ninth, Sussex County led off with a single. Florence botched a couple of bunts to load the bases with nobody out. The infield came in and Dillon Baker saved the game with a fielder's choice throw to the plate. It was all Will Carsten from there. A strikeout of the Miners' three-hole hitter and lineout of former Y'all Keenan Taylor sent us to extra innings. Jackson Tucker was the automatic runner on second and immediately got to third on a deep flyout. Hank Zeisler then saw his third intentional walk of the week, and Zade Richardson lines out to the shortstop, coming up short on the sacrifice situation. That left it up to Brendan Bobo with two outs. Bobo saw a first pitch fastball and drilled it into the left-center gap to score two and take a 5-3 lead. Aidan McEvoy shut it down with his league-leading 19th save to secure Florence's 10th victory in a row.
The Y'alls look to sweep the Miners tomorrow night, right back at Skylands Stadium for another 7:05 first pitch. It would be their fourth sweep in six series since the all-star break. Nathan Lawson gets the start for Florence opposing Jorge Garcia.
