Western New York Flash News Release

Buffalo, NY-(July 22, 2012) The Western New York Flash of the Women's Premier Soccer League Elite (WPSL) dropped its last regular season game to the Boston Breakers 1-0 on July 22 at Sahlen Stadium. The Flash finished second in the league and will play the NY Fury at 5 PM at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY on Wednesday July 25th.

The Flash started off dominating possession of the game, forcing Boston's keeper, Alice Binns, to make big saves. The Flash had three big chances in the first 20 minutes of play, but diving saves by Binns were able to keep the Flash scoreless. Outside back Alex Sahlen sent in a left footed cross in the first minute of play which was just over WPSL Elite's leading goal scorer, Adriana. In the 14th minute, Sahlen pushed forward again shooting a ball to the upper right hand corner, forcing Binns to punch the ball out for a corner.

Jamaican international Omolyn Davis almost back-heeled a goal in off of the ensuing corner but a Breakers' defender was standing on the goal line and was able to clear it out. Seven minutes later, Davis would hit the cross bar, before Binns was able to knock it out of bounds.

The only goal of the game originated off a Breakers' corner kick. Boston played a short corner and sent a high cross into the box. WNY Flash keeper Brittany Cameron was able to make the initial save but the rebound came off a poor clearance by a Flash defender and Boston's Elli Reed was able to poke the ball in the net.

Both the Flash and the Breakers would end that half with five shots. Into the second half, the Flash continued to create chances for an equalizer, but were unable to get the ball past Binns. The Flash had a total of 16 corner kicks of which they were unable to capitalize on and pressed until the dying minutes.

The Flash will play the semi-final match of the WPSL Elite at 5 PM against Paul Riley and the NY Fury at Sahlen's Stadium at 460 Oak St, Rochester, NY. For more information or for tickets, please call 585-454-KICK or visit us on our website at www.wnyflash.com.

The Flash ended the season with a record of 9-2-3 and 30 points.
