Port Huron Flags News Release
Port Huron, MI-The Port Huron Flags, the newest member club of the United Hockey League, announce "Slapshot" as the winner of their âName The Mascot Contest.'
Over 400 Flags fans voted in the "Name the Mascot Contest," which started June 7th at the âSelect A Seat, Meet and Greet Night' and ended 6:00pm Wednesday night. Slapshot beat out Rowdie, Flagster, Herbie and Shooter as the official name of the Flags' mascot.
Flags' President Dan Isenberg is confident that the oversized bear with glasses and a sailor hat will be a huge hit with âlittle' Flags' fans.
"We weren't looking for a scary or intimidating mascot," Isenberg said. "We wanted something that would become an icon of the organization in the community and at events. Something that the kids would love."
Isenberg added that he is more than happy with the participation in the contest. "It is just one more indication that The Flags' are moving, with the support of the community, in the right direction."
With season ticket sales up to 700 and unprecedented sponsorship sales and support from local businesses, The Flags are looking forward to a blockbuster year.
Slapshot and The Flags will kick off their season at home on October 21st against Danbury. For more information on the community owned, Port Huron Flags or to reserve seats for the upcoming inaugural season, call (810) 982-FLAG (3524) or check out the website at www.porthuronflags.net.
