London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, ON) - The London Lightning's impressive home streak is no more after losing to the visiting Sudbury Five, 86-83 Thursday night in their home and season opener.
A night that started with the raising of a Banner quickly went downhill from there as the Five jumped out quickly in the first quarter. London showed clear signs of rust as they only managed to shoot an icy 30% from the field and just 12.5% from free. Despite their shooting woes, London ended the first down just 21-18.
Sudbury continued to control the game for much for the second quarter, outscoring the Bolts 27-17 and heading into the half with a comfortable 13-point lead.
Much like most games last season, the second half of action belonged to the Bolts. Terry Thomas and Jordan Burns would take turns leading the Bolts back from their deficit and nearly overcoming the Five before falling by three to end the game.
London was led by the reigning Canadian Player of the Year, Terry Thomas' game-high 28 points and 13 rebounds. The only other player to score in double digits was Jordan Burns who added 10 of his 12 points in the second half of action.
