Schaumburg Flyers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL - Kit Pellow started off the Flyers with a solo home run following the Fielders early run in the first inning. The Flyers bats were quiet after Pellow, however, as they would not score until the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Mario Delgado and Joey Gomes had back to back doubles, Gomes getting his 50th RBI of the season bringing in Delgado.

The scoring continued in the bottom of the fifth as Tommy Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch. Travis Brown followed with a single. Ruddy Yan attempted to lay down a bunt, but a throwing error by Fielders pitcher Ryan Bicondoa would allow Fitzgerald and Brown to score, making the score 4-2.

The Fielders would score once in the sixth off of back to back doubles from Anthony Esquer and Kyle Higgins making the score 4-3. The Flyers would get that run back in the bottom of the inning with back to back doubles by Gomes and Rafael Mendez. Mendez picks up his first RBI with the Flyers.

The Fielders would strike again in the top of the seventh to tie the game 5-5. Joshua Short led off with a single, Brian McFall followed with a double, and both would round the bases setting up a tie game until the bottom of the ninth inning.

Delgado began the ninth inning with promise, ripping a double into the gap. A pop-out by Gomes and two intentional walks followed, loading the bases. With two outs, Tommy Fitzgeral was able to get a hold of one, singling in the game winning run.

Ryan Gehring struggled early, giving up a total of eleven hits through 5.1 innings. In the clutch, however, Gehring was able to get out of the first five innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three.

The Flyers will play game three of the series against Lake County tomorrow at 1:20pm. Post game autographs and kids run the bases for Family Fun Day at Alexian Field.
