Indy Eleven opened the scoring in the second half through Eamon Zayed, but the Eddies battled from behind to earn all three points thanks to goals from Pape Diakite and Ben Fisk.
The Eddies earned the first chance of the match on 4 minutes when Shawn Nicklaw found FC Edmonton Academy graduate Shamit Shome with a cross. The Edmonton native fired a shot that was saved by goalkeeper Jon Busch.
The visitors began to generate opportunities as the half progressed. An Eddies headed clearance fell to Cory Miller at the top of the box, but the defenders volley would go just wide of VanOekel's far post. VanOekel continued his season-long dominance between the posts against the Eleven and put his skills on display when got a hand to Dylan Mares' shot to tip it onto the crossbar.
At the other end of the pitch, the home side nearly opened the score in the final minutes of the first half after Salvadorian international Dustin Corea displayed neat footwork before teeing up Daryl Fordyce at the top of the box. Fordyce's low shot would go just wide of Busch's near post to send both teams into the break tied 0-0.
FC Edmonton pushed forward as soon as the second half resumed and nearly opened the scoring through Fordyce. Manchester's Adam Eckersley fired a cross towards the back post where teammate Tomi Ameobi headed the ball towards Fordyce. The Belfast native attempted to find the target, but his shot from in-close was deflected out of bounds for a corner kick.
The visitors would open the scoring on 56 minutes following a quickly taken free quick, working the ball out wide before Zayed got on the end of a low cross to put the ball past VanOekel and make it 1-0.
Indy nearly doubled their lead just past the hour mark when Zayed broke in behind the Eddies backline. The striker tried to curl a shot towards the near post, but VanOekel stood tall and made the save to keep the score line at 1-0.
Eckersley and Dustin were a constant threat down the left wing for the Eddies and the pair nearly linked up for the equalizing goal on 74 minutes. Eckersley found Dustin with a pass and the Eddies winger fired a shot towards goal that was parried away by Busch.
The Eddies were rewarded with an equalizing goal on 80 minutes- their first goal in 558 minutes. Indy 'keeper Busch parried Albert Watson's header towards Pape Diakite and the defender fired a left-footed half-volley into the top corner to make it a 1-1 score line heading into the final ten minutes of play.
The Eddies doubled their lead deep into stoppage time. Nicklaw carried the ball down the right side of the field before finding second half substitute Ben Fisk inside the box. The midfielder took a touch before firing a shot past Busch to complete the comeback win for the Eddies.
