Indiana Ice News Release
RECORD BREAKING WEEK: With road wins against Youngstown and Des Moines, the Ice set the new franchsie for road winning streak at ten games and closed out the week with five of a possible six points. On Wednesday, the Phantoms put Indy in a 2-0 hold early in the first before the visitors rallied for five unanswered goal in the first period en route to a 7-4 victory. Five different Icemen recorded two-point games in the contest. The 2013-2014 squad etched their names into the franchise history books with Friday's 7-1 road win over the Des Moines Buccaneers. Jacob Pritchard logged his second three-point (2G, A) night of the season while Joshua Jacobs, Sam Kurker and Brian Pinho all logged a pair of points in the effort. The Ice's record setting stretch came to a halt on Saturday as the team suffered their first road non-win of the 2014 calendar year against Cedar Rapids as the team fell 2-1 in overtime. Jason Salvaggio scored the lone goal for the Ice while Jason Pawloski stopped 23 of 25 in net. The ten-game win streak lasted just over two months as it began 11/23 in Omaha and ended 1/25 in Cedar Rapids and is the longest in the USHL this season.
BAKER'S DOZEN: Ice forward Scott Conway saw his impressive points streak peak at 13 games last weekend, tying the franchise record set by Daniil Tarasov (Worcester-AHL) during the 2011-12 season. The Penn State University commit recorded 18 points (6G, 12A) in the stretch that included four efforts of two or more points and the 13-game tear was tied for the second best in the USHL this year. Through 33 games this season, Conway leads all Icemen in scoring with 37 points (17G, 20A) which ties him for seventh overall in the USHL.
JUMPING RIGHT IN: Newcomer Sam Kurker wasted no time making an impact on Indy's offense as he logged four points (2G, 2A) in his first two games after joining the Ice roster last week. The St. Louis Blues NHL Draft Pick comes to the "Circle City" after spending the first half of the season with Boston University, seeing action in 12 games this year with the Terriers.
YOUTH HAS ITS ADVANTAGES: Age hasn't stopped Denis Smirnov from making an impact on the Ice as the 16-year-old forward has 14 points (6G, 8A) in his past 10 games, including two three-point (2G, A) efforts and three multiple-goal games during the stretch. The Moscow, Russia native currently ranks second on the team with 30 points (11G, 19A) and recently committed to playing college hockey at Penn State University.
