California Cougars News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - Jan. 27, 2009 - After splitting their weekend series in St. Louis and Texas, the Stockton Cougars (6-3) return home to face Wenatchee on Wednesday night at Stockton Arena. The last place Fire F.C. (1-8) is making their first of two trips to Stockton and is coming off a home loss to Denver last Saturday night. The match starts at 7:15PM, doors open at 6:00PM.

Led by midfielder Brian Farber, and his league best 20 goals, the Cougars have yet to spend a day out of first place this season. Farber has added nine assists for a team best 30 points this season. Head coach Bernie Lilavois is a close second to Farber with 29 points this year, but has a team best 15 assists. Assistant coach Aaron Susi is third on the team with 27 points, including 16 goals and 11 assists.

Stockton lost just their third game of the 2008-09 campaign last Friday in St. Louis at The Game Arena. They followed that disappointing 16-7 loss to the Illusion with a 16-4 throttling against the Texas Outlaws in Euless, Texas on Saturday. Farber led his team with five goals in the match.

Their match against Texas was the second against the Outlaws this year. Texas handed Stockton their first loss of the season on Dec. 5 at Stockton Arena. Mike Uremovich gave Texas the win in that game with a walk-off golden goal in overtime.

Stockton is very familiar with Wenatchee having played them twice already this season. The Cougars are through the midpoint of the 16 game regular season schedule and are undefeated against Western Division opponents.

The Fire F.C. is led by former Premier Development League (PDL, Outdoor) Most Valuable Player Junior Garcia and his 20 points this year. Garcia has 14 goals and six assists through eight games played. Alex Megson is second on the team with 14 goals and three assists for 17 points.

Wenatchee is the only team in the PASL-Pro with fewer than two wins this season. They are also the only PASL-Pro team to have lost in the United States Open Cup Tournament. The Premier Arena Soccer League's Tacoma Stars defeated Wenatchee on January 17 and advanced the Open Cup final four with a win on Sunday against Denver.

The opening kick is set for 7:15PM at Stockton Arena. Tickets are available by calling (209) 373-1550, by visiting the Stockton Arena box office and by visiting www.stocktoncougars.net.

Stockton next faces La RaZa de Monterrey on Friday, January 30 at Arena Monterrey. The match is part of the nation wide - and PASL-Pro sanctioned - Copa America Cup tournament. La RaZa participates in the PASL-Pro and National Indoor Soccer League. They are currently undefeated (3-0) against PASL-Pro teams and 6-5 in the NISL.

Wednesday's match will air on both 1420 KSTN-AM in Stockton and online via web audio on www.stocktoncougars.net.
