Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 6, 2007) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution on Monday 5-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 6,055 at Citibank Park.
The Revolution put up four runs in the first inning, but the game settled into a pitcher's duel after that. John Halama (7-6) gave up just one single in his final six innings of work, but was tagged with the loss after going eight innings and allowing five runs - three earned - on eight hits with six strikeouts. Wayne Franklin (4-0) remained unbeaten on the season, going seven innings for York. The southpaw allowed two runs on five hits, striking out five. Franklin Nunez struck out the side in the ninth to earn his seventh save.
York scored early with Rayner Bautista driving in Keoni DeRenne from second base on a double down the line with no outs in the first inning. Following an error and another base hit, Ramon Nivar's RBI single eluded centerfielder Norm Hutchins, allowing the fourth run of the frame to cross the plate. The Revolution added a fifth run in the second on an RBI groundout by Jason Aspito. The Ducks scored both of their runs in the fifth on Hutchins' deep drive to right-center.
Long Island brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh and eighth innings, but York's pitching was up to the task. Dionys Cesar went 3-for-4 on the night for the Ducks, and Edgardo Alfonzo went 1-for-2 with two walks.
The Ducks hit the road for the first time in August on Tuesday, heading to Camden for a three-game swing against the Riversharks.
