Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 8-7 in waddle-off fashion on Sunday night in the rubber game of a three-game series before a past-capacity crowd of 7,149 at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

York took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning on Carlos Franco's grand slam to right field off Ducks starter Stephen Tarpley. Long Island answered with three in the bottom of the first off Revolution starter Nick Travieso on a bases loaded walk by Deibinson Romero, a wild pitch that scored Joe DeCarlo and an RBI groundout by Dustin Woodcock. L.J. Mazzilli's RBI double to right in the third tied the game at four.

The Revolution regained the lead in the fifth on Nellie Rodriguez's RBI single to center and a double play ball that scored JC Encarnacion. However, a three-run bottom of the fifth shot Long Island back in front 7-6. Woodcock's RBI double to right, a balk that scored Woodcock and a solo home run to left by L.J. Mazzilli highlighted the inning.

An RBI single to center by Josue Herrera in the top of the eighth tied the game at seven. The Ducks answered back to win the game in the bottom of the ninth on Vladimir Frias' RBI single to right field, which scored Rusney Castillo.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Tarpley pitched five and one-third innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out seven. Travieso lasted five and one-third innings as well, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Tyler Webb (2-2) picked up the win after tossing one and one-third scoreless innings, conceding two hits while striking out three. Jim Fuller (2-4) took the loss, yielding the winning run on a hit and two walks in the ninth.

Woodcock led the Ducks offensively with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Mazzilli added two hits, two RBIs, a run and a walk.
