
Fire Frogs Close out Series with Win over Blue Jays

DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Florida Fire Frogs closed out the 2018 schedule against the Dunedin Blue Jays with a 9-3 victory at Dunedin Stadium on Wednesday night. The Fire Frogs wrapped up the season series with a 4-6 mark against the Blue Jays, including 4-2 on the road.
Florida (13-14, 42-51) started the scoring early with a two-run frame in the second. Braxton Davidson (3x5, 2R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) picked up his first of three hits with a single to start the inning, and moved up to third on a double from Garrison Schwartz (1x5, R, 2B). Both Kurt Hoekstra (1x5, R, RBI) and Kevin Josephina (2x4, RBI) produced RBI groundouts to give the visitors the two-run advantage.
Jared James (3x5, R, 2B, 2 RBI) drove home an insurance run with a double down the right-field line in the third, plating Isranel Wilson (0x4, R, BB) all the way from first on a hit-and-run.
Dunedin (19-8, 50-45) crawled within a run against Jon Kennedy in the bottom half of the third. Rodrigo pushed home Kacy Clemens with an RBI triple, and came home on the next pitch, a sacrifice fly from Yeltsin Gudino.
After both teams exchanged zeros in the fourth, the Fire Frogs broke the game open with a four-spot in the fifth.
James collected his second RBI of the night with a single to right, scoring Cristian Pache (2x5, R) for the two-run cushion. Davidson followed with a three-run blast to left-center for his 14th home run of the season, doubling his total from the 2017 season.
Brett Cumberland (2x4, 2 R, HR, RBI, BB) drilled a long ball to left-center in the seventh to stretch the lead to 8-2, and Hoekstra scored on a passed ball in the eighth for the ninth tally of the night for Florida.
The Blue Jays scored their final run on a base-loaded, hit-by-pitch to Kevin Smith in the final frame.
Troy Bacon (2-1) earned the win out of the bullpen for Luis Salazar's club, tossing two shutout innings of relief of Kennedy. The Tampa native gave up one hit, walked a man and struck out three.
Yensy Diaz (3-3) suffered the loss iwht seven runs allowed on eight hits, a free pass and six strikeouts.
Florida opens up a three-game series against the Clearwater Threshers on Thursday night at Spectrum Field. LHP Joey Wentz (3-2, 1.95) takes the mound for the Fire Frogs in the opener against LHP McKenzie Mills (0-3, 3.66). First pitch is schedule for 7:00 p.m., with coverage starting at 6:45 p.m. with the Florida Fire Frogs Pre-game Show on the Florida Fire Frogs Broadcasting Network.
