Fire Drops Third Straight

Louisville, KY – The Louisville Fire lost their third straight game, to Florida 47-43, dropping their record to 4-3 on the season. Both teams had trouble scoring in the first quarter with each team scoring once as Florida led 7-6 after the first stanza.

The second quarter saw an offensive explosion as the teams combined for 40 points in that quarter. Louisville's Rob Mager, Offensive Player of the Game, caught three of his four touchdown passes in the second quarter including a 38 yard strike from Matthew Sauk. Florida would score as time expired to take a 27-26 half-time led.

The third quarter would again see each team score just once as the defenses clamped down. The Fire would start the fourth quarter with a Danny Kight 22-yard field goal to take a 36-34 lead. The teams would trade touchdowns and the Fire led 43-41 with 8:54 left in the game. The Firecats would then put together a drive lasting almost eight minutes and score the go ahead touchdown with 1:00 minute left to take the led 47-43.

The Fire had the ball with 57 seconds left and chance to take the lead. Sauk spread the ball between his three receivers, Cesare Manning, Mager and Dennis Fryzel, who tied a Fire record with 14 receptions. Sauk would throw the ball into the stands with no time remaining after he saw a defensive holding flag thrown against the Firecats. The Fire had the ball with 0:00 left on the Firecats three and Sauk's pass attempt to Fryzel fell incomplete and the Firecats (6-1) hung on for a 47-43 victory.

Florida's Kelly Snell was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game and Cainon Lamb was named US Army Ironman of the Game.
