Manchester Wolves News Release


The Manchester Wolves' hopes of reaching the 2005 ArenaCup went up in flames Friday night with a 69-56 loss to the Louisville Fire in front of 4,736 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. The Wolves complete the season with a record of 12-5.

Louisville improves to 13-5 and will play next week for the American Conference Championship and the right to advance to ArenaCup6. The Fire await the winner of tomorrow night's W-B/Scranton at Florida affair.

Louisville QB Matt Sauk was on target as he was all season, shredding the Wolves defense for 288 yards passing and six touchdowns. He led the Fire on scoring drives in nine out of 11 possessions, with the second stop coming only as the game concluded. Sauk earned the Offensive Player of the Game honors for his efforts. His two main targets were Lawrence Matthews (9 catches, 111 yards, 1 TD) and Rob Mager (6 catches, 102 yards, 2 TDs). US Army Ironman of the Game Demetrius Forney rushed for 23 yards and two touchdowns on offense and had 4.5 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense. Fire DS Rob Green earned ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors with 3.5 tackles and one interception.

Leading the Wolves in defeat was QB Jake Eaton, who threw for a game-high 344 yards and seven touchdowns. Jamaal Perry (8 catches, 91 yards, 2 TDs) and David Bailey (7 catches, 115 yards, 2 TDs) were his two main targets on the night. William "Roc" Haith stood out on defense with 8 solo tackles, including one for a loss.
