Finals Rematch Headlines 2012-2013 Opening Weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC (July 18, 2012) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that it will drop the puck for its ninth season on Friday, October 26 with four games, including a rematch of last season's President's Cup Finals as the defending-champion Columbus Cottonmouths host Pensacola.

Opening night also features the Knoxville Ice Bears traveling to Fayetteville to take on the FireAntz. The Louisiana IceGators and Mississippi RiverKings both open the season with a pair of home games as Huntsville heads to the Cajundome to play the IceGators while the defending regular season champion Augusta RiverHawks take on the RiverKings on Friday and Saturday.

The Mississippi Surge open their home season on Saturday as they host arch-rival Pensacola.

Three more teams kick off their home schedules the following weekend as Augusta, Knoxville and Pensacola all drop the puck on home ice on Friday, November 2. The RiverHawks will host Fayetteville and Huntsville travels to Knoxville, while the Ice Flyers welcome the Mississippi Surge to the Pensacola Civic Center.

Finally, the Huntsville Havoc return to Breland Homes Ice at Propst Arena on Saturday, November 10 for their home opener against Fayetteville.

Again this season, each of the nine teams will play a 56-game schedule (28 home, 28 road), concluding with the awarding of the President's Cup to the 2013 SPHL Champions in April. The complete schedule is available as a PDF document on the SPHL website (www.thesphl.com).
