Evansville BlueCats News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN: The long off-season is finally over and fans of all ages are ready to welcome back their Evansville BlueCats for the 2007 professional indoor football season. The season kicks off this Saturday night at 7:05pm at Roberts Stadium when the Evansville BlueCats host the River City Rage from nearby St. Charles, Missouri. Long time BlueCats fans may recognize the River City Rage as the Show Me Believers, a name by which they were previously known in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, when the BlueCats and Rage franchises were both members of another league. The River City Rage joins the UIF for the 2007 season and the teams get the opportunity to renew their rivalry in the first game of the season as the BlueCats kickoff a season long celebration of their 5th Anniversary Season in 2007. This game is sponsored by Old National Bank.
The all-time series between the two teams is split at one game apiece. The BlueCats won the most recent meeting between the teams on May 8th, 2004, by a final score of 88-84, in a legendary contest that set numerous offensive and scoring records for both teams. The 172 combined total points in that game set a single game scoring record for the entire sport of indoor football that still stands nearly 3 years later.
This marks the 3rd season in a row that the BlueCats will open the season at home.
The BlueCats have exciting new promotions and halftime entertainment acts planned all season long, as well as bringing back several fan favorites.
The Harley Davidson motorcycles from ABATE of Indiana - Region 8 will be on hand and participate in the BlueCats pre-game ceremonies.
The halftime entertainment for Saturday's game will feature an ultimate frisbee competition between teams from the University of Southern Indiana.
The Gus Doerner Charity football toss will return for a second season. Before the game and during the first half, fans can purchase footballs to be "tossed" at halftime. This year there will be more prizes to win! Instead of tossing the footballs at a helmet, fans will be aiming for the BlueCats barrel, and every football that lands in the barrel will win a prize! All proceeds for the charity football toss will go to the nightly charity. Saturday's charity is Wish Upon A Star.
Kickoff on Saturday will be at 7:05pm. The gates at Roberts Stadium will open at 6pm. The BlueCats invite fans to show up early and tailgate with your fellow fans. The tailgate weather forecast for Saturday calls for extremely mild temperatures in the mid 70's! The first 2000 fans through the gates will receive the new BlueCats 2007 magnet schedule and the first 1000 fans will receive a free Evansville BlueCats Spirit Sign.
