Fields for Kids Grants Awarded

Bradenton, FL - Pirates Charities, the official philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, today announced the recipients of the Bradenton Area "Fields for Kids" matching grant program for 2016. Six local youth organizations located throughout the Bradenton area were awarded grants to help ensure their programs continue to thrive.

The organizations receiving Fields for Kids grants were recognized with a check presentation ceremony at McKechnie Field on Saturday, August 27.

The organizations that are impacted by the 2016 grants include:

The Anna Maria Island Community Center will utilize the funds to address drainage issues on several playing fields for youth sports, including baseball and soccer facilities.

The Braden River Little League will purchase field maintenance equipment.

East Bay Youth Athletics is using the funding to help with the construction of a new administration building.

Miss Manatee Softball, Inc. has nearly 300 girls ages 5-17 in its programs. The funds will be used in the construction of new batting tunnels.

The Palmetto High School Athletic Boosters are building a new batting cage. The grant will also aid in the renovation of the outfield fences on the baseball field.

Venice Little League will use the funds for a batting cage renovation.

Grant funds from the "Fields for Kids" program may be used for the upgrading of essential field components such as sod, infield playing surfaces, fencing, dugouts and irrigation systems. Upgrades to the overall facility, including lights, bleachers, scoreboards and concession stands are also eligible. Hundreds of youth in the Bradenton area will benefit from the 2016 grants.
