Dayton answered back with another Power Play goal, this time from Martin Uhnak (Mike Henderson and Brian Marks assists.) Berlin tallied the first full-strength goal to close out the 1st Period. Dashers 7 Goal 3rd Period Steals Victory
By: Tommy Pecoraro
It was definitely not a good night to be a goaltender, with 15 goals being scored combined by both sides. Both sides would exchange outbursts of goals and through 2 periods the Bulldogs had the game by the.... well you get the picture. Ultimately Danville was able to snatch victory from the hands of defeat, and much to the bewildered Brewster squad's dismay, skated away with the 3 points.
The first period may have been the only normal period in the game. Cory Giroux scored a nice goal to give Brewster a 1-0 lead halfway through the 1st, however Lester Brown tied things up with a power play goal in the final minute. The 2nd period was pretty much all Brewster. The Bulldogs scored 4 goals in a span of 4:17, from Cory Giroux, Ian DeLong, Marcus Mitchell, and lastly John Scully right after Matt Cooper was chased from the goal and Matt Anthony taking over goaltending duty between the 3rd and 4th goal. It seemed the Bulldogs were unstoppable at this point, and maybe in thinking they were, it ended up being their undoing. It started with a Dan Turgeon goal late in the 2nd, the final minutes of the 2nd being all Danville, firing away on Austin Lefkowitz, you could tell what kind of a period it would be in the 3rd. The Dashers started the 3rd period with 5 unanswered goals in the span of 5:36. Brent Clarke, then Dan Turgeon, then Miles McCauley to tie it 5-5, then Brent Clarke again to make it 6-5, then Ray Tremblay to make it 7-5. The Bulldogs final gasp came on a late power play that was capitalized by Sean Maktaak, however two empty net goals would be scored, one each by Dan Turgeon and Brent Clarke to cap off their respective hat tricks, and just like that, one of the Dashers biggest franchise comebacks, and one of the Bulldogs biggest disappointments, came to a close.
For Brewster, Cory Giroux had two goals. John Scully had a goal and 2 assists, Ian DeLong and Sean Maktaak had a goal and assist each, Marcus Mitchell had the other goal, and Zach Hale had two assists. Austin Lefkowitz stopped 33 of 40 for the loss. For Danville, Brent Clarke had 3 goals and 4 assists, Daniel Turgeon had 3 goals, Ray Tremblay and Lester Brown had a goal and 2 assists each, Miles McCauley had a goal, Aleh Shypitsyn, Scott Morongell, and Grant Holliday each had 2 assists. Matt Cooper stopped 20 of 24, and Matt Anthony stopped 8 of 10 for the victory.
The Dashers will be in Danbury tomorrow night to take on the Danbury Titans for a 7:35 puck drop. The Bulldogs will await the Titans for Sunday night's game, which will be extra special considering it will be played on outdoor ice behind the main Brewster Ice Arena complex. It will be the first outdoor FHL game since the 2012-13 season, when the Williamsport Outlaws played their only season outdoors at Bowman Field. Attendance for tonight's game was 125.
