Privateers Continue Winning Ways

The 1000 Island Privateers continued their undefeated streak tonight with a home ice victory against the visiting Danville Dashers. With the Dashers opening the action early with a netter by Justin Barr, the Privateers responded immediately with a goal from Matt Kinnunen. Danville closed out the period with another stinger from Jay McFadden.

The second period saw the only goal from Privateer Paul Kelly catching net from a Jeff Winchester pass, evening up the score in front of a home crowd of 427. The remainder of the period was fraught with frustrations, fights and penalties, including a slashing game misconduct on Danvilles Kyle Heffernan.

The Privateers opened the third period scoring with a goal by Michael Richard, unassisted, and Richard scored again at 10:59, assisted this time by Kelly and Justin Levac. With both Danville and the Privateers equalling on penalties, 1000 Islands ate the clock and cemented the win. Matt Kinsella turned away 16 shots for the Privateers, while the Dashers Alan Fritch blocked 46 as the Privateers outshot Danville 50-18.

The Privateers travel to Akwasasne on Friday, and return home against the river rival Warriors on Saturday. That game will include a benefit for Relay for Life, with a puck drop at Bonnie Castle Rec Center at 7pm.

An original-6 member of the Federal Hockey League, the 1000 Islands Privateers are an 'A' level professional hockey team competing at the Bonnie Castle Recreation Center in Alexandria Bay, NY. Wild Edge Aviators in OT for First Win

BROOKLYN, New York - The Vermont Wild defeated the Brooklyn Aviators 6-5 in overtime on Thursday night in Federal Hockey League action at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.

Jason Dolgy paced the Wild offense with two goals and two assists, which also included the game winner that came :29 seconds into overtime. For the Wild, that is their first ever win as a member of the FHL.

Brooklyn opened up the scoring in the first period on Anthony Iaquinto's second of the season at the 2:31 mark. Iaquinto put home a rebound in front of Wild netminder John Dorman to give the Aviators an early 1-0 lead. Vermont, though, found the equalizer late in the period on the power play as Anthony Pissano buried a one-timer in the slot with 2:57 left in the first.

Chris Ferazzoli would then give Brooklyn a 2-1 edge early in the second period on his fourth marker of the year coming on the power play. Ferazzoli buried a rebound over the left pad of Dorman to put Brooklyn back on top by one, 2-1. The Wild, again, tied it last in the period on a shorthanded goal from Dolgy, however with just :05 seconds left, Chris Jones tallied the go ahead goal for Brooklyn. Jones, who was initially robbed by Dorman with the right pad on a 2-on-0, found his own rebound and wristed the puck past the Vermont goalie for his third of the season.

Leading 3-2 in the third, Brooklyn would surrender the next three goals to the Wild, with two coming from Konstantin Kalmikov, which gave Vermont a 5-3 lead. Casey Mignone and Jones netted two for the Aviators to tie the game late in the final frame to send into overtime.

Pete Dundovich stopped four of five shots in relief of A's starter Tommy Lee, who turned aside 17 shots before exiting in the third. Dorman picks up his first win of the year making 42 saves.

The Brooklyn Aviators hit the road on Friday night when they take on the Cape Cod Bluefins at the Hyannis & Youth Community Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm and can be heard live at LiveSportsVideo.com.
