FHL Connected: Game Recaps April 1, 2016

April 1, 2016 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) News Release

Danbury Clobbers Berlin 10-1

By Zak McGinniss

DANBURY, CT - The goals came early and often as the Danbury Titans scored five goals in the first five minutes en route to a 10-1 drubbing of the Berlin RiverDrivers. Phill Bronner, Mike Driscoll and veteran Matt Caranci would each record 2 goals each as Danbury ended their 3 game slide.

The Titans got off to a fast start with Razmuz Waxin-Engback scored his first ever FHL goal courtesy of a nifty behind the back pass from Mike Driscoll just a minute and a half into the game. Tyler Gjurich would record his league leading 49th of the season thirty seconds later, Steve Brown with the assist. Ninety seconds later, Driscoll would get on the board himself, and Mike Henderson would connect off the ensuing faceoff, chasing Berlin starting goaltender Ryan Donovan to the bench. Andrew Gedert came on in relief, but the rout was on as Phil Bronner would score Danbury's 5th goal in a span of 5:06. Danbury outshot the RiverDrivers 14-3 in the period.

Brantley Sherwood would get Berlin on the board towards the end of the second period with a dribbler of a shot that snuck it's way past Danbury's Nikita Ivandikov. The Titans would find the gas pedal again in the third, with Bryan Dallaire restoring the 5 goal lead just three minutes into the third. Thirty-eight seconds later Driscoll would record his second of the game. Matt Caranci, who has missed over half the year due to injury, tallied his 12th of the year to continue averaging over a point a game. Bronner would get his second with three and a half remaining, and at the buzzer Caranci would bury his second to finish his first game back in style.

Danbury would not have a power play opportunity, while the RiverDrivers went 0-3. Ivandikov recorded 21 saves on 22 shots, while Gedert would make 29 saves on 35 shots in relief of Donovan.

With the playoffs around the corner, the picture is starting to become clearer. The Dayton Demolition have clinched the final seed in the Commissioner's Cup Playoffs, and the Danbury Titans need only 2 more points in their next two games to clinch the first seed. The schedule has already been set for a Danbury vs Dayton series. Due to availability at Hara Arena in Dayton, all games will be played in Danbury. Round 1, game 1 will be played on Thursday, April 7th, with a 7:00pm start. The Demolition will be the designated home team for that game. Game 2 will be played the next night, April 8th, again at 7:00pm, and game 3, if necessary, will be decided on Monday, 11th, with a 7:00pm faceoff.

Bowden Shuts Door on Dashers in Shootout Win

Matt Anthony will take the loss for Danville, despite an outstanding performance in net.
