Battalion Steamroll Steel City 16-0

By Al Kessler

After a lopsided win Saturday night the Berkshire Battalion repeated, filling the Steel City net. The one sided affair featured scoring by committee from Berkshire and saw Steven Messina record his 1st professional shutout.

Berkshire would continue where they left off last night jumping on Steel City early and often. Mike Dolman would score a power play goal 6:13 into the period. The tally puts Dolman into the history books as the highest scoring rookie in Federal Hockey League history. Mike Kaselowskas would score next firing a tricky shot which rang off the iron and in. Tom Tracy would assist on both goals giving him 71 points to tie the old rookie scoring record previously held by Tim Richter. Jeff Sanders would steal the puck off of the faceoff after the Kaz goal and fire a shot bar down to make it a 3-0 game. Tyler Prendergast would score next set up well by Dolman extending the lead to 4-0. Kaselowskas would intercept a Steel City pass and rush in all alone to bury the puck, 5-0 Battalion. Tom Tracy would wrap up the period as he was fed in front by Kaselowskas to score making it 6-0. Berkshire would outshoot the Warriors 29-8 in the period.

The pressure would continue as the Battalion kept punishing the Warriors miscues. Just over a minute into the 2nd Dimitry Antipin would ring the shot off the post and in to make the lead 7. Tyler Prendergast would tally his 2nd of the game after a beautiful set up on a 2 on 1 breakaway by Martin Uhnak. Tom "Danger" Tracy would then take center stage scoring 2 goals in row to take sole possession of the scoring lead for Berkshire as his 2 would make it 10-0 heading into the break. A late Prendergast penalty would put Steel City on the man advantage again, but a strong Battalion kill would mean the Warriors would start the 3rd period with a power play. Shots in the period were 14-10 in favor of Berkshire.

The Battalion kept up the pace of play in the 3rd and would put home 6 goals to ice the game in their favor. Prendergast would score 2 in the period along with Martin Uhnak. Mike Dolman and Robert Morton would each have a goal as well. The two leading scorers for the Battalion Mike Dolman and Tom Tracy would finish with 76 and 75 points for the season respectively. Both men have surpassed the previous record held by rookies in the FHL.

Steven Messina was perfect in the win stopping 28 of the shots he faced. James Robbins faced 54 shots in the loss stopping 42 while the local kid Kevin Cota came in for relief stopping 8 of 13.

Demonz Dash Dashers Hope in Shootout

By Easton Hoskins

The Danville Dashers picked up a win last night against the Demonz of Dayton, and were looking to do it again going into tonight. The Dashers got off on the right note, scoring just 10 seconds into the game. The Dashers goal came from Justin Brausen, who continued his hot streak, after picking up the hat trick in last night's game. The Dashers kept that one goal lead for practically the entire first period. That is until the Demonz scored two goals in a 45 second span. The first goal came from Mark Rivera, and the second off the tape of Jared Hicks. The Demonz used that two goal spurt to give them the 2-1 lead after the first period.

The second period ended the same way as the first, with Demonz up a goal. However this time it was ahead 3-2 instead of 2-1. The Dashers tied it up midway through the second period on a goal from Gehrett Sargis. The Demonz countered back with another goal from Rivera; his fourth goal in two days.

The Dashers entered the third period trailing, but wouldn't leave that way. The Dashers Gehrett Sargis knotted thing up at three after putting a shot throw the five hole of Dan McWhinney. The Dashers and Demonz would head to overtime after the Dashers successfully killed two penalties. The Demonz and Dashers would head to a shootout, and after McWhinney held the Dashers scoreless, and Ahmed Mahfouz scored the game winner, the Demonz to the win 4-3. The Dashers are back in action on Saturday night in the Dashers "Hockey Fights Cancer Night" presented by Alcoa, and the Vermillion Advantage. Then on Sunday it will be "Georgetown Night" from the David. S. Palmer Arena.

Wolves Hold On To Win Close Contest, 2-1

By: Tommy Pecoraro

The Whalers had turned things around this weekend, winning two straight against the Warriors on Friday, followed by a huge overtime victory over Watertown last night. Confidence is much higher in Danbury as the March to the Playoffs draws closer for both teams, and this may have been a playoff preview to remember, as it was as close of a game, and as intense of a game, as you will see between these two squads.

The Wolves got the upper hand from the get go, as Brent Patry buried a shot in the 1st period to beat Mike Brown to make it 1-0. Through the first two periods of play, the goaltenders Mike Brown and Jo St. Pierre combined to stop 50 of 51 shots. Through the 1st period, there was plenty of fisticuffs as well, as pairing off were Ryan Devine and Matt Wray, Cody Dion and Dan Morin, and Julian Fraser and Kris McCarthy. In addition, many monster hits were thrown as physicality reached a high level in the game. In the 3rd period Chad Bennett scored to make it 2-0 on a wrap around opportunity, and the score remained 2-0 until 6 minutes remained, when St. Pierre's shutout was ended on a rebound goal by Scott Morongell. With the net empty the Whalers pressured but could not score to tie the game, and the final was 2-1.

For the Whalers, Scott Morongell had the lone goal, assisted by Dan Morin and Steve Brown. Mike Brown stopped 27 of 29 shots for the loss. For Watertown, Chad Bennett had a goal and assist, Brent Patry had a goal, and Mike Zanella had an assist. Jo St. Pierre stopped 49 of 50 shots for the victory.

These two teams faceoff again on March 6th in Danbury for the last time this regular season, followed by potential meeting in the postseason. 2,652 fans filed into Danbury Arena for tonight's contest.
