Battalion Fight Back, Drop Danville 4-2
By Al Kessler
Bouncing back from a tough loss Saturday night the troops of the Battalion surged out with a strong come from behind effort on Sunday evening. A heroic effort from Louie George in between the pipes would keep the Battalion in the game, and eventually on top for good.
The first period was a quick period as very few stoppages or whistles were featured. Only two penalties were handed out, one to each team, and both man advantages killed off. The teams skated to their locker rooms with no score on the board.
The second period was a far different affair as the Dashers exploded out of the gate and Jonathan Juliano put home a goal 3 minutes into frame, helped by Dan Turgeon and Andrew Harrison. Berkshire would respond over a minute later when Alex Molnar would fire home his 3rd goal in as many games on the man advantage. Tristan Lysko and Martin Uhnak would assist. The Dashers would reply quickly themselves as about 3 minutes later Justin Levac punched in the puck during a net mouth scramble. Not to be deterred Lysko would return the favor slamming home the equalizer yet again on the man advantage.
Going into the 3rd tied 2-2 the action reached a frantic pace as both goaltenders stood on their heads to keep the score level, but it would be the Battalion who would eventually break the tie. While a man up Martin Uhnak while skating back away from the net would pick his spot top shelf over Matt Anthony's shoulder and put the puck there, 3-2 Battalion with just over 6 minutes remaining. The troops would have to kill off a 5 on 3 advantage, which would transition into an empty net tally off the stick of Alex Molnar, his 2nd of the game.
Matt Anthony made 36 saves on the 42 shots faced while Louie George stopped 40 of 42 in the win.

Dayton Outlasts Steel City

(Dayton, Ohio) The Demonz took on the Steel City Warriors for the third time this weekend on Sunday. Dayton took home an easy win on home ice Friday night winning 9-1. Saturday night's game was much more competitive and the Demonz escaped with a 6-5 win in overtime. The Warriors sent a message that they are not a team to be taken lightly and the Demonz, with a tough lesson from Saturday night's game in mind, were ready to prove that they are a better team than the effort they put forward when these teams last met.
The Steel City Warriors gave the Dayton Demonz a run for their money tonight. It was an offensive battle that Dayton would eventually win with a score of 5-4. The Warriors fought hard but are still in search of their first victory for the season.
The Warriors applied heavy pressure on offense early in the first period, but a breakdown in the defensive zone allowed Seth Ronsberg of the Demonz to score on their first shot of the night. The Warriors took ownership of the puck and put shot after shot on net for much of the period. However, another quick offensive rush and a hard wrist shot to the back of the net from Dayton's Dustin Skinner put the lead at 2 goals to none. Steel City stuck with their plan and continued to apply shots on net which led to a goal by Jake Slimm, leaving the first period score at 2-1 in favor of Dayton.
The Demonz scored two shorthanded goals in the opening minutes of the second period coming off of the sticks of Robert Vanwynsberghe and Dustin Skinner, his second of the game, increasing their lead to 4-1. The Warriors continued to pepper the net with shots and scored on a power play from MJ Graham, making the score 4-2. The Demonz increased their physical play in an attempt to slow down the visiting offense but were unsuccessful as MJ Graham scored his second goal of the game on another power play, ending the period with a score of 4-3.
Scoring chances mounted for both teams in the third period as neither team seemed to have an edge over the other in the early going. Steel City cycled the puck in the Demonz' zone trying to ignite something on offense, but Dayton's explosive offense put another point on the board from a shot by TJ Constant, making it a 5-3 game. The Warriors were able to put the puck into the back of the net with just seconds left in the third, giving them one more shot to tie with a deficit of only 5-4. Dayton held onto their lead thanks to a last second save by Matthew Kinsella.
Stars of the Game:
1 star: Dustin Skinner (Dayton)
2 stars: Robert Vanwynsberghe (Dayton)
