Dashers Lose 5th Straight, 9-3 to Dayton

By: Tommy Pecoraro

The game just about saw it all. Fights, hits, goals, 12 of them to be exact, a goaltending change, a big injury and even a broken pane of plexiglass. For the 5th straight game in a row the Dashers are the losers and remain at 4th place in the FHL, while Dayton continues to chase Danbury for the #1 spot.

In the 1st period, a broken pane of glass from a hit by Justin Barr on one of the Demonz caused a 10 minute delay, the first time that Danville has had to replace glass in the rink in some time. Following the glass fix, the offense would pick up, as Jesse Felten would give the Demonz a 1-0 lead shorthanded before Danville responded with a shorty of their own, courtesy of Ryan Stern. Later though, Ahmed Mahfouz would score his league leading 19th goal of the year to make it 2-1. However a scary moment occured later on in which a falling Ryan Stern clipped Ahmed Mahfouz, who immediately shouted in pain and gripped his knee. He was helped off the ice and never returned.

Following goals by Wehebe Darge and Brett Wall, Matt Dietrich and Lee McClure dropped the gloves after colliding in front of the Dayton bench. Soon after Justin Barr would score a power play goal to make it 4-2. However that's as close as Danville came, as Wehebe Darge and Jonathan Juliano would score to make it 6-2 after 2 period.

The 3rd period was more of the same as Anthony Battaglia and Justin Brausen scored to make it 8-2. Roman Andrejev added a goal to make it 8-3 before Jesse Felten would finish off scoring to make it 9-3. Things would explode with 2:55 to go as a near-line brawl broke out in the Dashers zone. Edgars Ozolins and Justin Barr would be ejected for Danville while Jared Hicks and Justin Brausen would be sent out for Dayton.

For Dayton, Jesse Felten had 2 goals and 2 assists. Wehebe Darge scored twice and added an assist. Jonathan Juliano also had a 4 point night with a goal and 3 assists, and the other goals were scored by Brett Wall, Justin Brausen, Anthony Battaglia (plus an assist) and Ahmed Mahfouz. Jeff Rose stopped 53 of 56 shots for the victory. For Danville, Roman Andrejev scored a goal and assist to take the lead in rookie scoring, while Justin Barr and Ryan Stern added goals. Matt Cooper allowed 4 goals on 25 shots before being replaced by Jeromy Semtner who allowed 5 goals on 22 shots. A total of 102 penalty minutes were handed out between the 2 clubs, as we can expect fireworks well before Midnight on New Years Eve as the 2 teams meet again at the Palmer Arena.

Privateers Five Goals in 3rd Period Harpoon the Whalers

A major penalty assessed to Danbury Whalers goaltender Mike Brown midway through the 3rd period allowed the Watertown Privateers to score 4 powerplay goals. The 4 goals tied the game 5-5, and a goal by Ludlow Harris with 42 seconds remaining put the Privateers ahead for good, the game ending 6-5.

Danbury's first goal was from Jason Pietrasiak assisted by Ilya Solarev and Steve Brown. Pietrasiak got Danbury's second goal assisted by Stanislov Vlasov. Scott Morongel scored Danbury's third from Cody Ayers and Andy Willock, The Whalers fourth goal was scored by Solarev from Ayers and Pietrasiak. Solarev got Danbury's fifth goal from Pietrasiak and Ayers.

For the Privateers scoring Branden Parkhouse had two goals and two assist. Craig Cole scored a goal, Liam Tully had a goal and an assist. Andrew Harrison had a goal and two assist. Dustin Skinner had two assist, Britt Oullette had two asssit, Beni Berisha had an assist as did Dane Ericksen.

The winning goal by Harris was assisted by Harrison and was a Christmas present for coach Brad Zangs, Harris had missed several games with a shoulder injury and tonight was his first game back.

Goaltender Matt Anthony stopped 23 of 28 shots and Danbury's Mike Brown and Joey Spagnoli had 30 saves on 36 shots on a combined effort.
