Outlaws Dominate Shorthanded Privateers

The battle between the first place Outlaws and second place Privateers didn't resemble the low scoring match up from this past Thursday in Maine when the Privateers handed the Outlaws a rare 3-1 loss. The Outlaws erupted right out of the gate with a four goal first period outburst. Anthony Battaglia opened the scoring at the 8:23 mark of the first period from Trevor Karasiewicz and Billy McCreary. Just 1:16 later, Kevin Cooper got his first of the night from Jason Reese and Jeff Winchester. Battaglia and Cooper would each add another goal apiece in the first period for the 4-0 advantage.

The second period was more Outlaws as they would strike for 5 more goals in the period. Karasiewicz got his 6th of the season from Battaglia and Travis Kauffeldt. McCreary & Jamie Zaleski added tallies before Battaglia and Cooper finished off their hat tricks to give the Outlaws a 9-0 advantage after 2 periods. In the third, the Outlaws added two more goals from Cooper and Gentry Zollars. Kevin Cooper became the first Outlaw to score four goals in a game.

Just one night after Dan McWhinney recorded his first shutout of the season, Adam Dekker picked up his 4th of the season with 24 saves. The Outlaws return home to host the Bluefins on Valentine's Night at 7:35pm. Tickets are still available by calling (973) 886-9335 or going to www.newjerseyoutlaws.com .

WHALERS SKATE PAST BLUEFINS, 5-2

DANBURY, CT - Greg Holt scored twice in the first period and the Danbury Whalers cruised to a 5-2 victory against the Cape Cod Bluefins at the Danbury Ice Arena in Federal Hockey League action. The win completed a significant weekend of action as the Whalers won three nights in a row to take third place in the league.

The Whalers took the early lead as a mainstay in the lineup displayed his scoring touch. Sean O'Malley tallied his 15th of the season and fifth goal in as four games from linemates Andrew Willock and Matt Moffat at 3:54. Holt got his first goal of the game at 8:15 from Stephen Mallaro and his second from Moffat and Lynn Beedle at 9:25. David Lun got Cape Cod on the board less than a minute after to cut the lead to 3-1. Willock got his third goal of the season with assists going to Moffat and Holt at 16:40 of the first period. The second period saw a pair of unassisted goals tallied. Matthew Harrington cut the game to 4-2 on a four-on-four goal at 8:25 but Matt Moffat re-established the three goal edge one minute later on his 16th goal of the season. His four-point night allowed him to reclaim the Whalers' points lead from Alec Kirschner. The win is Danbury's fourth in a row and the last of coach Phil Esposito's 5-game suspension.

The Whalers return to action Friday night as they host the Delaware Federals at 7:35. Tickets are available for this week and all upcoming Whalers games. Get your tickets by visiting thedanburywhalers.com or by calling 973-713-7547.
