EDMONTON, Ab. (October 17, 2012) - On Tuesday evening FC Edmonton signed thirteen young players to amateur contracts as part of the club's residency program at St. Joseph High School.

The players will go to school at St. Joe's and train four times a week with FC Edmonton reserve team head coach Jeff Paulus and his newly appointed assistant Angelo Sestito.

"Angelo will be good for the young players because he's already played at the level that they want to get to," Paulus said, regarding his new assistant coach. "He's proof that you can come out of Edmonton and achieve your dreams."

FC Edmonton reserves will play an exhibition schedule against teams from the Alberta Major Soccer League, universities and colleges from across the province.

The contracts will ensure compensation for the club in a player sale scenario, whether it is done by FC Edmonton or any other club.

In addition to the player and coach signings, 2012 FC Edmonton reserve team product Aymar Sigue has accepted an offer to join the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency Program.

Sigue, a striker, had six goals in 14 games for the Junior Eddies in 2012 and received a call up to Canada's U-15 squad, which played in the Copa Mexico De Naciones Sub-15 in June.

"Aymar has accepted an offer to join the Whitecaps' residency program and we are not standing in his way," said FCE general manager Tom Leip. "We would have offered him a second amateur contact but he decided to join the Whitecaps instead and we support his decision whole-heartedly."

The reserve team will train during the winter months in preparation for competition in the spring.
