FC Edmonton News Release
VANCOUVER, BC (May 12, 2015) - FC Edmonton is set to continue their successful 2015 Amway Canadian Championship run on Wednesday, May 13 (8:00 p.m. MT KO) against top-flight Major League Soccer (MLS) squad, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
"Wednesday night is a situation where the Eddies are playing well and we'll go into the match being very positive," said FC Edmonton's head coach Colin Miller. "Regardless of who will be wearing a Vancouver Whitecaps FC strip on Wednesday, they'll have real quality and will be very well prepared for this match."
After a false start last week in Edmonton thanks to Mother Nature, FC Edmonton and Vancouver Whitecaps FC were forced to postpone the Eddies home-leg due to unplayable conditions at Clarke Field.
The last time these two teams faced each other in this competition it was in 2013 at BC Place and without Miller after he was sent off in the first leg of the competition. After the first 45 minutes, the Eddies and 'Caps were all tied 0-0, but FC Edmonton went down to 10-men after defender Adrian LeRoy was given a red card. Vancouver Whitecaps FC was able to take advantage twice and secured their spots in the final after a 2-0 win.
"We've had some really good matches against Vancouver," said Miller. "I thought we were unfortunate to lose that last match at Commonwealth and we held our own until the very end in BC Place the following leg."
FC Edmonton reached this stage having beat Ottawa Fury FC in the preliminary rounds on a 6-2 aggregate score. Finding three goals in each match against the Fury FC, the Eddies will need to be on their best defensive behaviour against Vancouver knowing that their offence is sound.
Fans will be able to tune into this match on Sportsnet World (check local listings) for the 8:00 p.m. MT KO. The Eddies will host a viewing party at the Pint Downtown.
The Eddies will return to North American Soccer League (NASL) action on Sunday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. MT against San Antonio Scorpions. Fans can tune into City TV Edmonton (check local listings) for the broadcast of the match.
