FC Tucson Academy Battles to 0-0 Draw with Phoenix Rising Academy
June 9, 2022 - United Soccer League One (USL1)
FC Tucson News Release
Despite chances from both sides, FC Tucson managed to secure a 0-0 draw against Phoenix Rising Academy at Kino North Stadium.
Phoenix Rising (0-0-1) makes its first appearance in USL Academy this season. Eight of the academy players recently made their debut for Phoenix Rising in the USL Championship against New Mexico United after the first team was unable to participate per the league's COVID-19 protocols.
A chance for Tucson came in the first half when Ruben Bonilla beat off his keeper and sent the ball back to the middle of the box to Diego Ruiz. A quick flick of the foot sent the ball past the goalkeeper, straight towards the net. But, a Phoenix Rising defender moved back to the goal-line and blocked Tucson from taking the lead.
Sean Murray made three critical saves for FC Tucson (0-2-1) in the first half to keep the scoreline level.
FC Tucson Pro Academy will head out to California to face off against San Diego Loyal on Wednesday, June 22.
