FC Kansas City News Release

KANSAS CITY- FC Kansas City (FCKC) announced today that forward Shea Groom has re-signed with the club and will be returning for the upcoming 2017 season. Per team and league policies, specific terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The 2017 season will be Groom's third in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) after being drafted by 12th overall by FCKC in the 2015 College Draft. Since then she has made 32 appearances for Kansas City, starting in 28 games.

Head coach Vlatko Andonovski said, "I'm very happy to have Shea back this year. I think she did an excellent job last season and I'm excited about coaching her this season and into the future."

In her rookie season, Groom appeared in 13 matches, starting nine. She scored four goals and recorded two assists. She was named the NWSL Player of the Week in Week 13 of that season after scoring the game-winning goal against the Boston Breakers.

Last season, Groom started all 19 games she played in. She led the team and was fifth in the league with eight goals as she led Kansas City's offensive attack.

"I'm extremely excited to continue my career in Kansas City for a third season," said Groom. "It's home and there's no other place in the league I'd rather be."

Groom and the rest of her FC Kansas City teammates will report for preseason training in the next couple of weeks. The team opens against the Boston Breakers at Swope Park Soccer Village on Sunday, August 16th at 5:00 p.m. CT. Tickets and more information can be found at FCKansasCity.com
