FC Kansas City News Release
PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS - FC Kansas City, of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), announced today their primary home for the 2013 season. Shawnee Mission District Stadium, located in northern Overland Park, Kansas, will be the home for the "Blues" as they play 11 Regular Season games and one exhibition game (date and opponent to be announced) in their inaugural season. The 6,150 seat stadium, with seating on both sides of the field, will be the third largest capacity stadium in the NWSL, behind only the Portland Thorns' Jeld-Wen Stadium (20,438) and Sahlen's Stadium (13,768), home of the Western New York Flash.
Shawnee Mission District Director of Athletics, Rusty Newman, said, "The Shawnee Mission School District and the entire soccer community are happy to host the NWSL and FC Kansas City in what we believe to be one of the finer stadiums in the Midwest."
"The Blues need a home that accommodates our ever-growing fan base," said FC Kansas City President, Brian Budzinski. "We've received tremendous interest from the Greater Kansas City metropolitan community and the surrounding Midwestern states. This region has shown an incredible commitment to professional soccer and we feel that Shawnee Mission District Stadium will provide the perfect venue for the 2013 NWSL season."
