FC Kansas City News Release

KANSAS CITY - FC Kansas City and Seattle Reign FC battled to a foul-filled scoreless draw through four cards and oppressive summer heat at Swope Soccer Village. The game was a rematch of the 2014 and 2015 National Women's Soccer League championship matches, which were both won by the Blues.

"I was very happy with the performance of the players," Blues coach Vlatko Andonovski said. "Slowly, but surely we started looking the way we wanted to and we definitely played close enough to win this game."

Seattle started its attack early, earning three corner kicks in the first seven minutes. However, FC Kansas City dominated that stat column for the remainder of the match with 13 in the remaining time and held Seattle to three.

FC Kansas City had a number of deep runs in to Seattle territory and finished the game with five shots. Seattle had six shots and the two teams combined for 13 fouls.

The draw extended FC Kansas City's unbeaten streak to four games with three shutouts in that time. Nicole Barnhart has four on the season.

"One thing that makes me very happy is that in the four games we have played, the only goal scored on us was a penalty kick," Andonovski said. "We are very strong coming from the back and defend well as a team. I think the backline in particular is doing a really good job, but we have to be a little more clinical around the box and finish scoring opportunities."

The Blues will head to Washington next Saturday to take on the Spirit without Heather O'Reilly, Becky Sauerbrunn, Desiree Scott and Katie Bowen, who will be preparing for the Rio Olympic Games with their respective National Teams. O'Reilly and Sauerbrunn will represent the United States, Scott will play for Canada and Bowen will suit up for New Zealand. The Washington game will kick off at 6 p.m. CT.
