FC Edmonton U-20 Squad to Join AMSL

Edmonton, AB - Alberta Soccer has announced the Alberta Major Soccer League will expand in the 2019 season to include the FC Edmonton U-20 and Cavalry FC U-20 Teams.

The move increases the number of teams playing in Alberta's top amateur league from eight to ten, and the number of matches each team will play rises from 14 to 17. The 2019 AMSL season will begin on May 1st . Canadian Premier League developmental squads will not be eligible to compete at Nationals.

"I am delighted the FC Edmonton U-20 and Cavalry FC U-20 Development Teams will be participating in the AMSL for the 2019 season," said Shaun Lowther, Alberta Soccer Executive Director. "We're in the midst of an exciting time for soccer in our province, as we look forward to the CPL launching this spring and welcoming the football world to Alberta in 2026. Embracing these development teams in the AMSL provides an excellent opportunity to help homegrown players populate FC Edmonton and Cavalry FC First Teams, as well as developing Albertan players for future Canadian Men's National Teams."

"The dream is real for our young players to become full-time professionals and the opportunity to compete in the AMSL will help their dreams become reality."
