FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton announced, Thursday, the signing of English defender Netan Sansara. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Sansara arrives from Norwegian First Division side Fredrikstad, where the 27-year-old made 53 league appearances from 2014-16, while also wearing the captain's armband. Prior to his move to Fredrikstad, Sansara made 16 appearances with Boston United, with other notable stays at Corby Town, as well as Walsall from 2008-11.
"I'm very excited to work with Netan," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miler said. "I have been very impressed with the game footage I've seen and by the conversations we have had. He comes in and has had a very good career up to this point. He was the captain of Fredrikstad, arguably the second biggest club in Norway the last three seasons. That tells me that there are leadership qualities there for Netan. He is a left full back and he is one that will solidify our back line."
Sansara joins an FC Edmonton back line that led the North American Soccer League (NASL) in goals against in 2016. The team allowed just 21 goals in 32 regular season matches en route to a semifinal appearance in The Championship-the league's four-team postseason tournament.
"He's desperate to do well this side of the water and that tells me that he is hungry. He wants Edmonton to be somewhere he can establish his roots in North America. We've spoken about getting involved within the community and that will be important for all of our players at the club, who have also spoken about getting into the Edmonton community."
